De Posthoorn with its southfacing terrace and extremely comfortable accommodation, is a jumping-off point for the West Frisian Islands of Schiermonnikoog and Ameland. Dokkum, the centre for water sports, the ''terp'' route of ancient mounds and, in the winter, skating. You can canoe in the nice surroundings of Dokkum. There is also a subtropical swimmingparadise and a manège.
