Area Information : Pevensey Bay makes an ideal place to stay if you plan to explore the area, as it is a short distance from Eastbourne and has excellent road links to the rest of the county.
Pevensey village is just 4 miles from the sea and is part of the Cinque Ports, a group of towns that pledged to supply men and ships to fight against invasion. The area was renowned for smuggling.

Pevensey Castle (1 mile) is one of 9 forts that stood defending the south coast against Saxon Invaders and stands on the site of the old Roman fort where William the Conqueror camped before the Battle of Hastings.
