Area Information : Royston is situated on the Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire border in the north-east corner of Hertfordshire. The town is surrounded by countryside, with nearby towns including Baldock (14.5 km/9 miles south-west), Letchworth (16 km/10 miles south-west), Cambridge (19 km/12 miles north-east) and Hertford (29 km/18 miles south).
Royston is situated where 2 Roman roads met, the Icknield Way and Ermine Street. The town is named after the Wayside Cross erected by Lady Roysia. The town was a favourite hunting base for King James I, who built a hunting lodge in the town.
