Hotel Information : This fine building was constructed in the 1630s as a farmhouse for the nearby Kirby Castle and its inhabitants. It replaced another farmhouse on the same site, which had probably dated back into the Middle Ages.
The noble Kirby Castle at one time possessed an additional tower which was demolished in the 18th century. The surviving bricks were used in the repair of the farmhouse, thus further adding to its character and historical charm.
A long farming tradition ended when the estate was sold in 1918. Later becoming The Castle Hotel, tales of secret underground passages from the castle to the hotel were confirmed when one was discovered in 1975.
