More Information |
Area Information : The town of Castellammare del Golfo assumed its early importance as a port for the ancient settlements in Segesta and Erice. The old quarter, which is based around the 17th century Aragonese Castle, is now full of small restaurants and bars.
The coastline from Castellammare del Golfo to San Vito lo Capo is some of the most stunning that Sicily has to offer and is typified by isolated coves and rocky beaches.
The area includes: the Zingaro National Park; the picturesque fishing village of Scopello; the beach areas around San Vito lo Capo; the ancient city of Segesta, which offers perhaps the best preserved Doric temple in Sicily; the medieval hill-top town of Erice; and the Egadi Islands, which are accessed from Trapani.
